A Weekend in Review

After Thanksgiving I spent a few days debating if we should decorate. In my defense the past few years we have not been home for the holidays for at least half the month so I never wanted to put everything up, just to take everything down and not get to enjoy it. But after persistence from my mother I finally decided that we should. So after a few trips to the store we now have a freshly decorated tree and  festive outside decor and I’m making an effort to have holiday songs on and apple cinnamon candles lit at all times to make the house feel even more in the Christmas spirit! Also, I’m really into tartan plaids this year (for my house and my clothes). I think my crush on Sarah Vickers of Classy Girls where Pearls has something to do with it!

This past weekend we went home to Memphis, TN for the St. Jude Marathon Weekend. Our first stop was my favorite BBQ joint and boy, it was so delicious. I really miss good BBQ, it’s something I think took for granted when I was younger living in Memphis. We picked up our packets downtown and did a mini ‘tour de Memphis’ driving the half marathon route (which the hubs was doing the next day). Memphis is pretty awesome and I always like to go back see all the culture and sites it has to offer.

Early Saturday we ran. I ran the 5k and the husband dominated the half marathon. I mean the boy can run. He finished in a time of 1:24 and 25th place out of 18,000 something. I am not that cool, but wanted to still participate so I did the 5k with a friend (we both wore pink totally on accident). The absolute best part of the run was running through the campus of St. Jude Children’s Hospital. It literally had me choked up to see all the patients and their parents on the side of the streets with signs and pom poms, so elated to see us run by and to maybe get a high five. If you don’t know, St. Jude’s lets any child with cancer come to the hospital and they do not have to pay a single dime. It’s amazing. I heard the run raised over 40 million for the hospital so I’m happy to have played a little role in that.

I hope you had a fabulous weekend!

A Week in Review

This past week has been full of events, inspirations and celebrations! Here’s what I’ve been up to lately:

I’ve heard of Warby Parker glasses before but  when I finally got my eye prescription updated a few weeks ago, I knew it was the perfect time to try them out! I was so impressed with the ‘try at home’ process and even though it was hard to choose, I have ordered a fabulous new pair that should be arriving today!

Last week was architecture week in Knoxville and each evening was full of some kind of dinner or event with the husband and his engineering company. I was probably the brightest in the room each night as my wardrobe consisted of an emerald green dress one night and hot pink pants and black and white polka dots the other night. It was great to meet the amazing architects in town and see how they have totally revitalized this ‘scruffy’ little city.

Saturday consisted of a beautiful inspiration shoot for the Julie Roberts Photography workshop. Gilded gold, cream and mint colors with a hint of deco and edwardian style filled a majestic old marble factory. I can not wait to see the final images!

And finally, I celebrated the 3rd anniversary of my 29th birthday on Saturday. I got some fabulous goodies (like my new Kate Spade iphone cover) and indulged in this yummy cake with my hubby and in-laws. I have a great feeling about 32 and can’t wait to get started on the new year! Stay tuned for tomorrow as I launch a giveaway to celebrate!
